China Then and Now: A Musical Journey

This Chinese charity concert will take you into an exciting journey from traditional to contemporary Chinese music played on both traditional Chinese as well as Western instruments. The Silk String Trio – one of Europe’s finest Chinese music ensembles features the internationally renowned virtuoso Cheng Yu, Pipa (Chinese lute) and her colleagues Zhao Xiao, Erhu (Chinese fiddle) and Xu Muzi, Guzheng (Chinese zither). They will perform a selection of traditional and contemporary Chinese music. The concert also showcases three talented, award-winning young Western trained Chinese musicians: Jian Ren, violin, and Catherine Cheung, piano and Chi-Ling Lok, piano solo, who will perform Chinese solo and chamber music works by renowned contemporary Chinese composers including Zhou Long (Pulitzer Prize for Music, 2011) and Bright Sheng, Han Kun Sha and A Bing.
